The colorful design on this Metropolitan Museum of Art pen was inspired by decorative artwork from the Museum Collection. Over the course of his decade-long career (1880-90), Vincent Van Gogh produced nearly 900 painting and more than 1,100 works on paper. This pen is based on a Van Gogh painting of four bouquets of spring flowers called "Irises".
- Van Gogh painted the irises reproduced on this pen near the end of his long stay at the asylum in Saint-Rémy
